Supporting the Next Generation of Leaders

Now in its third year, the previous Jimmy Toledo Scholarship Golf Tournaments have been a huge success and each year the tournament gets bigger and better!

The event is a fundraiser for the Jimmy Toledo Scholarship which benefits the children and dependents of United Public Workers members. The scholarship provides financial assistance for higher learning for local high school seniors and college students. Proceeds raised from this event directly benefit the graduating keiki of our UPW ohana for years to come.

Thanks to our generous sponsors and donors, the UPW Foundation has been able to expand our scholarship awards each year and in 2026, we awarded a total of $14,000 in scholarships!

You can continue to support the next generation of leaders by making a donation or purchasing UPW merchandise at shopUPW.com. Proceeds from all orders go towards the Jimmy Toledo Scholarship Fund.

About James “Jimmy” Toledo

The scholarship and golf tournament honor James Toledo, affectionately known as Jimmy, a figure synonymous with leadership and dedication within United Public Workers. Toledo’s contributions were manifold; as Chief Steward of the Board of Water Supply where he worked for over 30 years, a member of the State Executive Board, and the BU 01 Executive Negotiating Committee.

He was instrumental in securing protective provisions for working families in the union’s contract legislation. His unwavering commitment to the well-being of UPW members and their families left an indelible mark on our union and its legacy. Toledo sadly passed away in 2013 at the age of 72.
